A cutting edge dance collaboration between Beijing Modern Dance Co (China) and Cie 13/Rosa Mei (Belgium), Zoetrope I & II probes modernisation in China through evolving perceptions of time and space, from hutongs to massive, bright, shiny Tesco wonderlands. New and old China co-exist, sometimes gracefully, sometimes squashed together like ungainly non-sequiturs. Limbs move like traffic patterns seen from skyscrapers at night.
Images of high speed factory automation and digital spam serve as a backdrop for bodies dashing towards pixelated prosperity.
Concept/direction : Rosa Mei
Choreography : Rosa Mei & Gao Yanjinzi in collaboration with the dancers.
Dancers (Cie 13) : Champion Kehond Bakomba, Yentl De Werdt, JianHui Zheng “Kamky”, Gerrit Wellens, Adrian “Lobo” Miramontes.
Dancers (BMDC) : Lei Yen, Du Xue Bo, Niu Jun Jie, Sha Ri Na.
